COVID direct LAMP testing platform

Comprehensive screening for hospital staff

In the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic and prior to the extensive launch of vaccinations we were requested to build a COVID-19 testing platform for the Royal Devon University Healthcare Trust. The platform’s objective was to allow for the staff of various healthcare organisations in the south west to test regularly for COVID-19 by providing samples to be analysed in the hospital labs.

The tests were carried out with the users being asymptomatic and in doing so we were able to catch and prevent dozens of potentially lethal outbreaks. Since the testing was all asymptomatic a member of staff could unknowingly have infected other members of their team and department leading to absences from work and potentially infecting patients.

Project

COVID-19 direct LAMP testing platform for NHS staff

Platform

HTML, CSS, JavaScript, Bespoke API data layer developed in ASP.NET C#, SQL Server, Scannit software, HL7 integration

Client

NHS

The platform was required to integrate with the lab testing facilities by creating test requests and analysing results files. It also integrated with smartphone scanning software so that a user could log in and simply point the camera at a barcode for the sample to be connected to that user.

The functionality of the platform also included a registration system, user authentication and various levels of administrators all with their own functionality for example the human resource level administrators would need notifications of positive results while the lab technician administrators role was to scan samples and connect these to existing users.

As with many of the platforms and applications we build the security of this was of high priority. The platform was tested by an independent penetration testing organisation and all security risks were mitigated against.
